In the case of a vehicle impacting one of these posts at speed; the post is engineered to break at the base and lessen the impact to the vehicle and passenger/s. VicRoads legislates that if any sign posts are necessary within X m. of a road that has a speed limit of 80kp/h or higher and if there is no barrier between the road and the sign post then the posts are required to be frangible (engineered to break at the base on impact).

Regulations specify that the post/s are to be installed into the earth Solution that the bottom hole is 50mm from the top of the ground.
